Sex Offender check

The Port Huron Police Department recently completed a registered sex offender residence check on 120 of the 274 registered sex offenders living in the City of Port Huron. The year end sex offender residence sweep found seven out of 120 who were checked in violation of the Michigan Sex Offender Act. It requires the verification of addresses with authorities which the seven haven't done, which in itself is a four-year-felony. In Michigan, sex offenders must register their address with law enforcement after conviction. Then, depending on the tier level of their conviction, offenders must verify their address with law enforcement at least annually, and up to 4 times per year for the most serious offenders. The city has a total of 274 registered sex offenders, the most serious of which need to verify their residence up to four times a year. The December 30th random compliance checks were conducted by officers from the Port Huron Police Road Patrol and PHPD NET Team, along with several troopers from the Michigan State Police
