Drivers heading into Canada will notice some rate changes taking place this Friday. The Michigan Department of Transportation will be making some toll rate adjustments based on currency-exchange rates, according to MDOT Communications Representative Jocelyn Hall. Travelers entering Canada will see toll rates increase up to $3 to $4 in Canadian currency, says Hall. Prior to the changes, the Blue Water Bridge has been the only state-owned bridge crossing without a parity policy, including the Mackinac and Ambassador Bridge. With these rate adjustments, the Blue Water Bridge will now be more in-line with other bridge crossings in Michigan that have a parity policy in place. Rates will be adjusted every 6 months based on the daily exchange rate. If you use tokens to cross the bridge they won’t be affected by the change, but currently they are all sold out. The Canadian rate for eastbound traffic on the bridge will be reviewed and adjusted on April 1st and October 1st of each year, based on the daily exchange rate.
