School test scores take a dive

Some alarming M-STEP test results released by the Michigan Department of Education. 56% in grades three through eight failed the English language arts portion of the exam. That means only 44% and only 44%  of students are reading at grade level. In math, only 37.4-percent of students were proficient. Meantime, in social studies,  23.8-percent were proficient. Officials are now trying to figure out the cause of the decline. Across St. Clair County, about 45% of third-graders were proficient in ELA. 26% of St. Clair County eighth-graders were proficient in Social Studies, and 27% were proficient in Math. According to mischooldata.org, some of the highest scores were reported in the Marysville School District and among the lowest scoring schools were Landmark Academy and the Port Huron Area School District.
