Port Huron City Council meets tonight where they will be discussing a long-vacant building in Downtown Port Huron. City Council is set to hear comments tonight for creating an Obsolete Property Rehabilitation (OPRA) district in the 300 block of Huron Avenue – the site of the former Emroy Furniture, and before that – Woolworth’s Department store. The district would defer any any additional taxes the property owners would need to pay as a result of improving the building. Property owner Steve Fernandez, in documents filed with the city, says the ground floor would be remodeled with the potential to become a “boutique grocery store” with lofts and offices on the second floor. Port Huron City Council will also be asked to approve an ordinance tonight creating single family housing zone in a district bound by Wall Street, Seventh Street, Griswold Street, and Tenth Streets. Port Huron City Council meets at 7pm tonight.
