First responders and members of the community banded together yesterday morning to mark the 17th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. The ceremony was organized by the Port Huron Police and Fire Departments, with agencies from across the county and across the bridge participating in the event. Mike Otis is the public information officer for Sarnia Fire and Rescue and says he made the trek across the border to show solidarity with his American brothers and sisters. Along with Port Huron and Sarnia authorities, members of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s office, Customs and Border Protection, and the Marysville Police and Fire departments were also in attendance. Port Huron Police Captain Marcy Kuehn says it’s the community’s way of saying thank you to all that risked their life on that dreadful day, and to never forget the sacrifices made by Fire fighters and Police officers. Yesterday’s event took place at the International Flag Plaza just north of the Blue Water Bridges, which is dedicated to those who lost their life in the 9-11 attacks.
