Amtrak train strikes car Monday night

No injures were reported in a Monday night accident when a passenger train struck a car in St. Clair County’s Port Huron Township. Sheriff’s Deputies say an Amtrak train heading east into Port Huron struck a vehicle around 11:30pm Monday at a railroad crossing on Griswold Road, east of Range. According to authorities, a 31 year old Manistee man had driven around the crossing gates and became stuck on the tracks. Witnesses say he had gotten out of the vehicle prior to the collision and was seen walking on foot in the area. Further investigation lead deputies to believe he was intoxicated at the time of the incident. He was discovered at the Speedway gas station on Range Road and was arrested. Charges are from the St. Clair County Prosecutor’s office are pending.
