Yale teacher honored by state lottery

A local educator has been selected as an Excellence in Education award winner by the Michigan Lottery. Yale calculus and physics teacher Brian Bearss has been selected this week’s Excellence in Education award winner. He receives a $1500 cash prize and a $500 grant for his classroom. The Michigan Lottery Established the Excellence in Education awards in 2014 to recognize outstanding public school teachers. One of the weekly winner will be selected as the Educator of the Year and receive a $10,000 dollar cash prize. Kenneth Nicholl, superintendent of Yale Public Schools, nominated Bearss for the Excellence in Education award and described him as “truly an educator in every sense of the word.” Bearss will be featured in a Michigan Lottery TV segment that will air on WXYZ in Detroit and WNEM in Saginaw tonight.
