Marysville is mourning the loss of a longtime resident and city leader. Joseph Johns passed away Saturday at the age of 95. Johns served on Marysville City Council for 55 years, with 12 of those years as mayor. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a past commander of the Marysville American Legion.  Johns was a member of the executive board of the Girl Scouts, Council on Aging, and a longtime member of Marysville United Methodist Church. The City Council Chambers at Marysville City Hall have been named in honor of him. In an interview for a 2013 Marysville High School documentary,  Johns is quoted saying, “I really love Marysville. I see no reason why I would want to live anywhere else.”

Visitation hours for Joe Johns will be held from 2 to 8 pm Tuesday at the Marysville Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place Wednesday at 11am at Marysville United Methodist Church. He will be buried with military honors at Marysville’s Riverlawn Cemetery by the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
