Over 240 pounds of unused or expired drugs were taken of the streets this past weekend during the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department’s drug take back day. According to Sheriff Tim Donnellon, the medication was taken to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for disposal by incineration. The sheriff says disposing of excess medication is an important step towards fighting the opioid crisis. This past weekend marks the 16th time the local Sheriff’s department has participated in the take back event. Statewide, over 1-thousand pounds of drugs were collected by the Michigan State Police. Residents who still wish to properly dispose of pills can bring them to the Sheriff’s Office on Michigan Road during their normal weekday business hours.
