The City of Port Huron and the operators of a Pine Grove Avenue motel have reached an agreement regarding an ongoing legal dispute. Earlier this year, the city filed legal proceedings against the Port Huron Day’s Inn claiming the owner is operating the property as a public nuisance. The city has cited numerous safety and drug concerns about the property and sought the closure of the motel for up to a year. In a consent judgment issued by St. Clair County Circuit Court this week, the motel owner has agreed to make major improvements to the Day’s Inn property. The corrective action plan calls for increased security features, rental requirements for individuals, and room renovations. Port Huron City Manager James Freed says he is optimistic the consent judgement will result in a safer city, if properly executed.
