Public school officials in the Blue Water Area say a divide at the state capitol is likely to impact their budgeting process this year. Dr. Kevin Miller, superintendent of the St. Clair County Regional Education Service Agency, says he is waiting to find out the amount of state aid that will be provided to local school districts. Speaking to WPHM yesterday, Miller says the clock is ticking – due in part to a debate over Governor Whitmer’s road funding plan. “I wouldn’t call it a road block yet, but, there is no movement,” said Miller. “By now, we have heard an initial budget from the House and the Senate, usually.” Miller says it’s frustrating for local school districts as Michigan law requires budgets for schools to be completed by June 30th, but the state budget doesn’t start until October 1st. Until a finalized budget is present, Miller says local superintendents are currently “throwing darts at a dart board” as they are not sure what their final funding numbers will be.
