A slight increase in Michigan’s unemployment rate in April. The rate was 4.1% after six consecutive months of remaining unchanged. That’s still lower than the April 2018 rate of 4.3%. The state’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate was half of a percentage point higher than last month’s national unemployment rate of 3.6%. Unemployment is slightly up locally as well. St. Clair County’s jobless rate was 5.5% last month. That’s up a few tenths of a percent from April, when the unemployment rate in St. Clair County was 5.2%, according to Department of Technology, Management, and Budget data.
