Another plan to fix the roads has been approved in the state House. Legislation passed on a party-line vote would put all of the sales taxes collected at the gas pumps into road repairs. The budget also includes giving all school districts at least $90 more per student. The money would come from a three percent cut in state departments budgets. Supporters say the changes could add more than $800 million dollars per year to repairs. But opponents say the legislation would divert money from schools and municipalities. The Governor has proposed a 45-cents a gallon gas tax increase to fund road work. Governor Gretchen Whitmer tells Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick that she will won’t sign a budget that doesn’t include a road funding solution.  The House budget now goes to the Senate and, if approved, it will then be delivered to the Governor.
