County health officials have put together what they describe as a road map for improving the health and well being of local citizens. The St. Clair County Health Department is releasing the results of their recent Community Health Improvement Plan which identifies seven action areas for local health an elected officials. St. Clair County Chief Medical Office Dr. Annette Mercatante tells WPHM the action areas range from disease prevention to economic opportunity and children’s health issues to the environment. Mercatante adds that the most unhealthy residents tend to be the poorest residents in the county and she hopes the new Community Health Improvement Plan will help local officials address those shortcomings. Other identified issues include mental health and opioid addiction. Mercatante says the most unhealthy residents tend to be those with the lowest socioeconomic status and she hopes the new Community Health Improvement Plan will help local officials address those shortcomings.
