Man dies following head-on collision with ambulance

A Marine City man has died following a Monday morning crash involving an ambulance and SUV. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s department says 33 year old John Lynch of Marine City died  Monday afternoon at a Detroit area hospital. Authorities say he was driving an SUV northbound on River Road near Hathaway Road shortly before 5am Monday morning. Lynch is believed to have crossed the center line and struck the ambulance head on. He was extricated from the vehicle by members of the St. Clair Fire Department and was taken to an area hospital. The ambulance involved in the crash was transporting a 67 year old patient who was not injured. Two Tri-Hospital EMS employees – the driver and a paramedic – were taken to an area hospital for treatment minor injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s department is investigating an accident involving an SUV and a Tri-Hospital EMS ambulance. Authorities report that the two vehicles collided head on on River Road near Hathaway in East China Township. The driver of the SUV sustained serious injures and was taken to an area hospital and later transferred to a Detroit area hospital for further treatment. The occupants of the ambulance, including Tri-Hospital employees and a patient being transported, sustained minor injuries.  The cause of the crash remains under investigation and the names of those involved have not yet been released.
