Schools to provide nutrition during virus hiatus

Monday marks the beginning of at least three weeks of no in person classes for all K through 12 school districts in Michigan. That following an executive order last week by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

The Port Huron Area School District will be offering free meal services at five area locations. Children ages 18 and under will receive two days worth of both breakfast and lunch to go on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through April 3rd. The meals will be able to be picked up at Port Huron Northern and Port Huron High Schools, as well as Garfield and Cleveland Elementary schools, and at the Indian Trails Mobile Home Park in Burtchville Township. Distribution will occur between 9am and 10am.

Port Huron Northern and Port Huron High Schools will also have outdoor wifi available for students without access to the internet in order to download their academic needs.

The Marysville Public School District will also be providing free lunches to its students. The meals, available for pickup, will be distributed starting Tuesday and will include breakfast and lunch items for the week. The means can be obtained in the bus loop behind Marysville High School between 11am and 1pm. The program will once a week, on Tuesday, until classes resume.

Other Blue Water Area school districts will also be providing meals to their students, with parent’s encouraged to check with their local district to see what is available.
