Memorial day is going to look quite different at Port Huron parks and beaches. Port Huron City Manager James Freed tells WPHM the city will be doing everything possible to limit capacity and encourage social distancing. “The bathroom won’t be open, the splash pad won’t be open, we have to remove the picnic tables, and the playgrounds will be closed,” said Freed. “I would honestly discourage people from using the beaches this weekend.” He adds that parking lots at Port Huron City beaches will be reduced to 50% capacity in hopes of limiting the number of people using the beach.

Non-furloughed City of Port Huron workers are returning to the Municipal Office Center as part of the city’s return to work plan. Port Huron City Manager James Freed says workers will be wearing masks and their temperature will be taken daily before being allowed to enter the building.  The Municpal Office Center however remains closed to the public until Michigan’s stay at home order is lifted for our region. Freed adds city employees are working to process a backlog of mail, and he asks for residents patience for processing water payments.
