Port Huron gets the OK for social districts

You could soon grab an alcoholic beverage to go at a local Port Huron bar and consume it within Port Huron’s newly formed “social district.” Announced yesterday afternoon, the Michigan Liquor Control Commission approved the city’s plan which would allow the open consumption of alcohol in downtown. Alcohol serving establishes will now need to apply separately in order to participate. Bars and restaurants, under a new state law, are allowed to offer to-go beverages in specially marked cups for consumption outdoors downtown. In preparation for social districts, the City of Port Huron has recently added more outdoor seating throughout the social district footprint including a new outdoor “beach” concept in front of McMorran Place and new lighting in the pocket parks surrounding the Military Street bridge.
