St. Clair County’s top election official is dispelling rumors about ballot dumping and the use of markers on ballots. Jay DeBoyer, Clerk for St. Clair County, says Sharpies and other types of markers are okay to use for completing ballots. Speaking to WPHM, DeBoyer says claims of the contrary spreading on social media are 100-percent false. “The tabulators we use in St. Clair County were approved by using a Sharpie as the voting implement,” said Deboyer. He adds that ink bleed through does not invalidate a vote. “The ballots are specifically designed for the possibility for ink bleed through.”

DeBoyer also says lies are being spread about “ballots being dumped” at a precinct in Marysville. DeBoyer say a viral social media post shared by President Trump’s son is incorrect. DeBoyer says the 500 or so absentee ballots in question in Marysville were late to be counted, but were added to the city and county’s totals by early Wednesday morning. “When we post unofficial results, and then people run with things like that, it’s a disservice to the citizens, it’s a disservice to the process.”
