Milestones reached in vaccination effort

Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan Health and Human Services Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun provided an update on vaccine rollout and the Wednesday. The Governor praised Michigan’s progress on vaccinations, which this week surpassed the 50% mark. As a result, the Governor is directing Michigan OSHA to allow in person work on May 24th. COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations have also decreased since mid-April. This comes as the state closes in a one million confirmed cases since the pandemic began. Just over 2200 remain hospitalized with the virus. Another milestone was reached this week in a Northern Michigan county. According to the Michigan DHHS vaccine website, Leelanau County reached the 70%  milestone Monday, the first county in Michigan to do so. St. Clair County’s vaccination rate is currently 45%.
