Port Huron to purchase new welcome signs

Those visiting Port Huron will soon be directed about town with the help of new signage purchased by City Council this week. Better wayfinding markers has been a goal prioritized during council’s annual goal setting session for several years now. Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp tells our Paul Miller she is glad to see progress being made on this issue.

“We know where things are, but does everybody else?” asked Repp while speaking to WPHM Wednesday. “The library, the museum, all those things… if you want to be welcoming you need to sing your community appropriately.”

City Council approved an agreement for $48,000 dollars with Valley City Signs for three new “gateway” sings. They will be placed at the northern city limits on M-25, the southern city limits on Military Street, and at the I-94 offramp to Pine Grove. Earlier this year, city council approved a $9500 bid also from Valley City Signs to identify types, locations, and a design for the new signage. They are expected to be installed this coming summer.
