The City of Port Huron is urging residents in the Black River Canal District to prepare for flooding. According to the Port Huron Fire Department, there is a high likely hood of flood damage in low lying areas. In preparation, sandbags will be disbursed at various distribution points throughout the canal neighborhood.

The city has also contracted with an ice breaker which will begin operations Saturday at 8am. Motorists should expect intermittent bridge openings at the Military, 7th, and 10th Street bridges due to the ice breaker. Officials say current ice conditions on the Black River are unstable and residents should avoid venturing out on the ice.
