The St. Clair County Board of Commissioners will vote tonight on a proposed contract renewal for Medical Director Dr. Remington Nevin.
The proposed agreement includes a provision requiring a unanimous vote from all seven commissioners to terminate the medical director without cause, rather than the simple majority typically required for county-level positions. It would also shift the medical director’s reporting structure, making Dr. Nevin report primarily to the county administrator instead of the health officer.
According to sources within the St. Clair County Health Department, both proposed changes have raised concerns among some staff members.
Commissioners are also expected to vote on creating a new deputy medical director position to provide day-to-day oversight and support. The position has already been approved by the County Advisory Board of Health.
Tonight’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the County Administrative Office Building in downtown Port Huron.
