When you compare economic numbers in Saint Clair County to the neighboring areas of Gennesee, Macomb, Sanilac, Oakland, and Wayne some obvious local problem areas appear. Bill Kauffman has been making such comparisons for years. The St. Clair County Administrator presents report cards in annual addresses showing those comparisons and in the most recent years several economic categories have been stagnant or are in fact falling. Kauffman during County Commission Committee meetings last night said he hopes to get some community leaders to help correct the situation. Of large conern is the fewer number of youths (utes) who are in the local workforce…primarily 25-to-35 year olds…their numbers locally he says are the lowest in the region. A change in education skill levels also needed according to Kauffman. Ways to improve the not-so-rosy report will be given to commissioners once Kauffman discusses the issues with community leaders…something he hopes to do over the next few weeks.
