Kylie Melbourn high school student by day, social media mastermind by night? Melbourn, 17, was able to get singer, Austin Mahone, to slide into her direct messages nearly by accident. How does someone “accidentally” do that? Like this.
Melbourn has always used Instagram to filter her photos before she posts them to other social media sites such as Facebook. There isn’t a good way to save photos to your camera roll without also posting it to Instagram, and who wants to be that person that triple posts? Melbourn then found out instead of screen shooting the filtered photo and then going back through to crop out all the surrounding mess, she could just DM the photo to someone and it would automatically save to her camera roll on her phone.
She didn’t want to send it to her friends who would actually see what she was doing, so she picked a celebrity at random. Austin Mahone, starts with “A,” easy enough. Melbourn didn’t think he would actually check his DMs because he probably got stuff all of the time.
Melbourn has been doing this for years now. She never got a response before and didn’t expect one and then one day, this happened. “Looking good Kylie, thanks for sharing your favorite memories with me lol”
She posted it to Twitter and Mahomies lost their cool.

Melbourn said she sent him a reply with a heart emoji and her phone number. She may have just given fan girls everywhere a terrible idea, but she also proves unexpected good things happen when you’re not looking for it.
