General Motors is poised to start letting as many as four-thousand salaried workers know that their jobs are being eliminated. The cuts are expected to begin today and play out over the next several weeks. The automaker isn’t confirming the timing, but the layoffs are part of a bigger restructuring plan announced last November. It’s unclear what departments will see cuts first. GM is offering salaried workers out placement assistance. Manufacturing workers facing plant closings are being offered transfers to other plants.
