An 81 year-old man was robbed Tuesday, in Columbus Township, by men posing as tree trimmers. According to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon, when deputies arrived at the man's home, located in the 8000 block of Rattle Run Road, he explained that three men came to his house in a purple PT Cruiser type vehicle and said they were there to trim tree's on his property. They said if he didn't have the trees trimmed he would be fined by the state. The man invited one of the men into his house to better hear him, another suspect entered the home as well. Once inside, one of the suspects distracted the homeowner, while the other stole an undisclosed amount of money. Sheriff Donnellon says this is a very disturbing incident, and another case of criminals preying on the elderly. He notes that if anyone comes to your door uninvited, don't let them in. If they refuse to leave, or you feel there is something suspicious, get vehicle information and descriptions of the persons. Then contact the Sheriff's Office or your local police department.
