Bah-da ba ba baaah!
Like many, McDonald’s was a highlight of my childhood. If my brother and I were good while we were out, Mom would grab us a Happy Meal on the way home. And on really special occasions, we could go inside and climb around in the Play Place! To this day, it’s still one of my favorite fast food joints in the Blue Water Area. Well a kid in Ohio must feel the same way, but he didn’t wait around for his parents to take him to the Golden Arches.
An 8-year-old boy in East Palestine, Ohio jumped into his father’s van with his 4-year-old sister to take a road trip for cheeseburgers this past Sunday after their parents fell asleep!
In my mind, it looked something like this. But in a van, obviously.
Police told the local news that the children pulled into the drive-thru at about 8 p.m. a mile and a half away from their home. Witnesses claimed that the boy “drove effortlessly,” following all the rules of the road correctly (driving under the speed limit, responding appropriately to traffic lights, etc). When asked, the 8-year-old said he learned how to drive by watching YoutTube videos.

A family friend who was inside the restaurant spotted the children and called the family while others called the authorities. Luckily, no one was injured and the boy didn’t hit a single thing during his joyride, a fact the police describe as “unreal.”
No charges are being filed. And to answer the real question on everyone’s mind: yes, the kids used their piggy bank money and ate their cheeseburgers while waiting on the grandparents to pick them up.
