Grey’s Anatomy Made TV History Last Week

Grey’s Anatomy, an ABC drama currently in it’s 14th season, recently celebrated their 300th episode. This was actually ABC’s first TV show to ever reach this rare milestone. Shows are lucky to celebrate their 100th episode in present-day Hollywood. Some speculate that Grey’s will be the last TV show to reach this goal. The show joins the few other TV series that also hold the title of the “300 episodes” mile marker, Law & Order SVU, CSI, and NSCIS.

Reaching 300 episodes is an achievement in itself. But let’s take a minute to examine Grey’s Anatomy…

The show was not only created by a women, written by a woman, directed by a woman, Line Produced and Show Run by women, but the show has centered around the same female character for 14 seasons.

For decades, Hollywood and investors has said that women aren’t profitable. Something created with women at the center wouldn’t create enough bank flow. Too much grief for not enough green. Grey’s Anatomy has stomped that idea to the ground. The show is ABC’s highest rated drama and the #3 rated show in all of TV broadcasting. This show with women it’s epicenter has been nominated for several Primetime Emmy Awards and has received numerous awards such as the Golden Globe for Best TV Series- Drama.

Show Runner for Grey’s, Krista Vernoff, shared this tweet to commemorate the show’s milestone.

Part of the tweet says,”It focuses on stories of friendship and loss and love and grief and celebration and victory and inspiration and forgiveness and grace.” These are typically considered weak story lines that will fade out quickly and won’t keep popularity. Well, tell that to the tried and true fans of 14 seasons of the medical soap-drama.

She continues, “There are no murders, there was no shooting, the female characters were not secondary. It was (and will be) seen by many, many millions of people worldwide. It will be discovered by 200,000 new teenagers a month on Netflix. It makes a lot of money for ABC. Do not tell me that female artists are not bankable.”

The 300th episode was full of easter eggs for fans to enjoy. At the center of the episode’s plot there are three dopplegangers of formers surgeons at Grey-Sloan. Look alike’s of cast favorites, George O’Malley, Cristina Yang, and Izzie Stevens, wind up the ER. The three friends are even in their 2nd year at Seattle Presbyterian.
