Fresh off of his first Grammy win, the Childish Gambino caught up with E! News after his performance to confirm he is retiring that stage name.
For those that don’t know… Yes. Actor, Donald Glover is indeed R&B artist, Childish Gambino. Maybe you saw some posts debating on if they were the same person, well, they are.
At the 2018 Grammys, he performed on stage one last time as Childish Gambino. “I’m making another project right now. I like endings. I think they are important to progress.” He stands by his decision to retire the stage name as he ends an era. At least he went out with a bang. His performance of “Terrified” at the Grammys was joined by JD McCrary.
If the name JD McCrary doesn’t mean anything to you yet, it’s about to. McCrary has been cast to voice young Simba in the Lion King movie remake. Glover will be voicing adult Simba. Here is the world’s peak at these two talents hitting the stage together for the first time.
We made something that felt good,” Glover said. “It’s nice just to be part of a moment culturally.” His Grammy nominated album, Awaken My Love is available everywhere and the Lion King remake is expected to hit theaters in summer of 2019.
