Shawn Mendes isn’t needing stitches for this one.
You might have seen Mendes post a video laughing about his (very real) bruised face on his Instagram story. We have an explanation!
The 20-year old musician from Toronto was in Nashville to tape an episode of “CMT Crossroads.” He sat down with E!News for an exclusive interview about the spill. Before his taping, he went riding around Nashville on an electric scooter with some friends. That’s what led to his facial injury involving cuts and large bruises.
“I fell off of a scooter yesterday—very hard core,” said Mendes. He was all smiles in his interview. “I wasn’t even going that fast, actually. I was going a little bit slow, then I turned around and something happened. I said, ‘I don’t want to break a wrist!’ So, I put my face into the ground,” spoken like a true guitarist. He didn’t want his performance to suffer due to a hand injury since he plays during his shows. This is how he ended up deciding his face hitting the ground was a better idea than trying to catch himself and risking a broken wrist.
However, he was the opposite of upset when it happened. “I can still play guitar and I can still sing—and that’s what matters,” he told E!News. Mendes notes that he is thankful that there was no real damage down from his accident…And he’s already gotten back on the horse. “I rode it back to the hotel,” said the songwriter to Tennessean. “I don’t regret it, actually. It was fun,” he recommends that if people want to ride them, to give it a try.

CMT Crossroads interview
“Now I’m here at Crossroads with a bruised face!” Even with the make-up team on him, you can still see the bruising on his face during his interview after the taping. You can see Shawn Mendes performing with Zac Brown Band on “CMT Crossroads,” October 24th.
Tickets are on sale now for his upcoming world tour for his self-titled album. It kicks off March 7, 2019 in Amsterdam. The North American leg starts next summer.
