The plan to allow alcoholic beverages to be consumed street-side in downtown Port Huron took another step forward this week with City Council giving approval to the businesses that asked to participate. Those participating businesses include Casey’s Pizza and Subs, Martina’s Grill, Raven Cafe, Lynch’s Irish Tavern, City Flats Hotel, McMorran Place, Vintage Tavern, and Wings Etc. They will now have to apply to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission. Downtown Development Authority Director Cynthia Cutright says final approval for Port Huron’s Social District is likely to be made in less than two weeks. The recently passed state law allows take-out alcoholic beverage in specifically marked cups from participating licensees. Port Huron’s social district extends from Beers Street to Court Street along Huron Avenue and Military Street. Cutright says the initial Social District is set to expire at the end of October, but may be extended to run year round.
