Black River canal dredging underway, again

It’s the third time this year that a sand blockage at the mouth of the Black River Canal in Port Huron will need to be removed. Crews began work yesterday at dredging the canal entrance, something Mayor Pauline Repp says has become a routine issue that requires permits from the state. The dredging is expected to be completed by Friday. The Sand removed from Black River Canal will be deposited on the north side of Lakeside Beach. As a result, drivers can expect intermittent lane closures and increased truck traffic along Gratiot Avenue. The canal will be closed to recreational boating traffic for the duration of the project.
