Former St. Clair County Sheriff Dan Lane died Sunday. Lane was a veteran of the United State Army and began his law enforcement career in 1968 first with the Yale Police Department and later the St. Clair County Sheriff’s office. He held multiple leadership positions within the Sheriff’s department and was instrumental in forming the St. Clair County Drug Task Force in 1985. He was first elected Sheriff in 1988 and remained in that position until 2008. Dan Lane was the longest serving sheriff in St. Clair County History. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
