A multi-jurisdiction police chase came to an end in Port Huron early yesterday morning, resulting in a man’s arrest. According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s office, a black Chevrolet Impala wanted by authorities in Sanilac County was spotted on 24th Avenue in Fort Gratiot Township shortly after midnight. A St. Clair County Sheriff’s deputy pursued the vehicle, with the driver of the vehicle ignoring the deputies’ lights and sirens. The suspect then attempted to enter the Blue Water Bridge where he turned around and fled westbound on I-94, traveling in the wrong direction for a short period of time.
The suspect then left and re-entered the highway eastbound in the correct direction and exited at Pine Grove avenue. Police deployed stop-sticks along Pine Grove, which took out three of his four tires. The pursuit ended with the suspect striking a patrol car and then crashing into a snowbank. The suspect lead authorities on a short foot chase but was taken into custody. His identity has not been released, but he is facing charges including fleeing and eluding and driving under the influence. Based on information provided by the Sanilac County Sheriff’s office, the suspect may be a flight risk looking to flee the state or country.
