Man found dead following standoff with police

A person of interest in the suspicious death of a 26 year old man in Port Huron this past weekend has been released from police custody. Port Huron Police providing an update to the Sunday morning incident,  in which a police standoff lead to the discovery of a body in a 17th Street house. An autopsy of the deceased male was completed Monday with additional laboratory results still pending before a cause of death can be determined. The person of interest also on Monday was released from the St. Clair County Jail pending further investigations.

Police continue to investigate a suspicious death following a weekend police standoff. Port Huron Police were called to a home in the 1300 block of 17th Street around 1:45am Sunday. Authorities say the suspect was involved in an assault and was possibly armed. The suspect barricaded himself inside the home, with the department’s Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Unit called in to assist. Area residents were encouraged to stay inside their homes and to avoid the area for several hours Sunday morning. Police did gain entry into the home where they located a deceased 26 year old male inside. His death is believed to be suspicious, and a person of interest is lodged at the St. Clair County Jail.
