Off-duty Port Huron officer facing OWI charges

An off-duty Port Huron officer is facing charges this week after allegedly being found intoxicated behind the wheel. The Port Huron Police Department reports on May 3rd, the as-yet unnamed officer was arrested following an investigation by the department’s command staff. The officer was then lodged at the St. Clair County Jail until they were sober and were released pending a case review by the Prosecutor’s Office. Wednesday, that review concluded with criminal charges being brought forth for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated. In a statement this afternoon, Police Chief Joe Platzer reminded the public that members of the police force are held accountable for their actions both in and out of uniform. Platzer also reports the officer has been placed on Administrative Leave pending the completion of a thorough internal investigation.
