You don’t have to travel up north this Labor Day to participate in a five mile long bridge walk. The St. Clair County County Parks and Recreation Commission is hosting the 16th annual “Trek the Trestle” walk Monday along the Wadhams to Avoca Trail. The event is one of dozens statewide that coincide with the annual Labor Day walk on the Mackinac Bridge.
“It’s not as big as the Mackinac Bridge, but I still think it’s pretty impressive, at 640 feet long it’s one of the longest of its kind,” said County Parks Director Dennis Delor. “Most of the families that do the walk seem to love it every single year.”
The Trestle Trek begins at 9am Monday at the M-136 trailhead in Avoca. Food will be on sale after the walk with proceeds supporting the United Way, and commemorative “Trek the Trestle” t-shirts will also be on sale.
