Two people are now formally charged with murder in the 2018 death of three-year-old Matthew Maison. Amanda Maison, the boy’s mother, and her former boyfriend, Maurice Houle, were arraigned Monday in Port Huron’s 72nd District Court. Both face a charge of first-degree murder, with Houle facing three additional counts of resisting and obstructing after authorities say he fought with deputies during his arrest last Friday, injuring one of them. During arraignment, prosecutors outlined multiple instances of alleged abuse over the course of Matthew’s life, including locking him in a room without food or water, and having a pillow held over his face. Maison and Houle are also accused of plotting to cover-up the abuse by lying to police and Child Protective Services. Not-guilty pleas were entered on their behalf and each reportedly admitted to authorities the other had been the one to harm Mathew. Both defendants were denied bond and are scheduled to appear in court again on April 22nd.
