Someone Finally Married a Robot

Well, it took until 2017 but someone finally did it. Someone married a robot.

And of course, this happened in China.

Here’s the happy, uh, “couple” I guess?

The South China Morning Post reported that Zheng Jiajia, 31, an artificial intelligence expert who designs and creates robots, built the “female” robot at the end of last year. He decided to go the artificial route after his failed attempts at human companionship. “Her” name is Yingying, and as of now she can read a little, recognize pictures, and even say a few simple words.

I mean, these were pretty low standards. Maybe Zheng just wasn’t looking hard enough?

In what might rank as one of the saddest ceremonies to date in human existence, the “couple” tied the knot this past Friday. Too bad it wasn’t a day later or it could have all been chalked up to just being an April Fool’s prank. Yingying wore a black suit on the day and “her”head was covered with a red scarf during the ceremony, a traditional Chinese wedding ritual. His mom and a few others witness the union. One of his friends said that Zheng had grown frustrated after failing to find a girlfriend (so he decided to completely destroy any chance of finding a human woman by doing this).

Zheng carrying his bride probably because she ran out of batteries.

The story said the artificial intelligence expert plans to upgrade his robot “wife” to enable her to walk and even help out with household chores. Since there’s no mention of companionship and love, it seems like Zheng was just really looking for a live-in maid.

Gluing an Amazon Echo to a Roomba would have been a much easier way to go!

Can’t blame you, Yingying. I’d be embarrassed to show my face, too.
