An Australian is going to extreme measures to quit an ugly habit. A woman asking to only be referred to as “Krystel” has allowed herself to be chained inside her house to prevent herself from smoking! The mother, 34, from Sunshine Coast, Queensland has been smoking for 20 years. She knows people are going to think she’s crazy, but staying away from cigarettes appears to be more important!

“Krsytel” sees this as a last resort.
“I have gone so far as to wonder about being put in intensive care for a week, drop me off [out] bush with […]food and water and let me walk back,” she told ABC news, laughing. “So I was thinking of worse methods, but I’ve come to the conclusion that a chain around the ankle and some supervision wouldn’t go astray.”

What lame puzzles! That poor woman. 🙁
For three weeks, she’s making herself wear a chain around her ankle that will prevent her from leaving her room to smoke. There are tins of food next to her bed, and friends will bring fresh produce for her to eat. There are books, puzzles, and access to Wi-Fi for entertainment. “Krystel” is also being supervised for safety.
As crazy as this sounds, it’s apparently necessary since no attempt to quit in the past has ever stuck since the physical side effects of withdrawal proved to be too overwhelming. But now “Krystel” has more motivation than ever to kick the habit: a health scare has turned her nic-fit into a quit-fit. A recent abnormal pap smear result was the catalyst for trying to quit for good. Since regular methods have failed in the past, she knew it was time to start thinking outside the box.
Kacie Kelly flat out says this is the stupidest method of going cold-turkey of all time, but the results don’t lie. “Krystal” is 11 days into her self-imposed imprisonment of three week. Though, she admits to sneaking one cigarette, it’s still the longest length of time she’s been smoke free since the age of 14. She said the absence of cigarettes had made her aware of how much she relied on them for coping with day-to-day life.
I tried to find clever “off-the-chain” giph, but it’s just not coming to me. This is the best I could do.
