Father’s Day is coming up this Sunday (you’re welcome for the reminder!), so everyone is going Dad Crazy right now! Case in point: Go check out our Hot Dad of the Day right now!
There’s really no reason not to!
But we’re not the only ones; a streaming service called HowToWatch posted an article to their website that shows the most popular TV dads in every state. Overall, 29 small screen fathers were picked by compiling list of famous TV dads and plugging them into Google Trends to see the top-ranking states in terms of search for each title over the past 12 months. And Michigan has the honor of having the 2nd most popular TV dad in the nation!
That distinction goes to (Cue the drum roll): Gomez Addams from The Addams Family!
This might seem like a peculiar choice, but think about it: On top of being portrayed by John Astin as unfailingly upbeat, Gomez is incredibly supportive of his children and their bizarre activities. And you’d be hard pressed to find a man more enamored with his wife Morticia! These are just a few of reasons the patriarch of The Addams Family is the most popular TV Dad in Michigan as well as Florida, Indiana, Oklahoma, and Texas!
Another popular yet odd choice was Homer Simpson from The Simpsons. The lovable buffoon of a father took the title of Top TV Dad in Colorado, Illinois, Oregon, and Pennsylvania (Probably all the boarding states of mysterious state that houses Springfield). Remember that the most popular doesn’t necessarily equate to BEST dad, but Homer does usually get it close enough to right by the end of the episode. Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie could do worse…right?
Other television fathers deserving honorable mention are Danny Tanner from Full (and Fuller) House, Joe West from The Flash, David Nolan (a.k.a. Prince Charming) from Once Upon a Time, and Carl Winslow from Family Matters. But the #1 TV Dad on the nation shouldn’t really surprise anyone.
Jack Pearson from NBC’s This Is Us ranks as the top TV Dad in a whopping 5 states, passing our favorite goth dad here in The Mitten! Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island love this guy, and you can’t really blame them. He puts his children before everything else and was progressive before it was cool. He’s a flawed person to be sure, but that makes Jack great while still being easy to relate with. We’re pretty sure he held the title of Top TV Dad in America even before he saved the family dog from a house fire!
