Peanuts Gang is Getting a Revival

Gear up to hang out with Snoopy and the gang in the coming years.

Apple has made a deal with DHX Media to create shorts, specials and even a new series with the beloved Peanuts characters.

This deal is a part of Apple’s plan to open their own streaming service. The company has yet to disclose the name of the service but has garnered quite the armory of content including one project that stars both Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.

Per the deal with DHX Entertainment who co-owns the Peanuts world with Sony Music Entertainment and the family of Charles M.Schulz, (the creator of Peanuts,) this new series will center around educations STEM content. Remember Astronaut Snoopy? We expect to see more of that guy.

This should come as no surprise as a  year ago in November 2017, Peanuts Worldwide and NASA announced a collaboration. Their hope is to encourage a whole new generation of student to want to enter in science, technology, engineering and math fields.

These characters have been an educational and holiday staple since the comics were first published in 1950. More than 60 years later, it still brings exciting entertainment to kids and adults alike as they have turned into some of the biggest pop culture icons to span across multiple generations.

DHX deal is a huge win for Apple as they begin efforts to enter into the educational children’s programming. Their competitors have already made headway in this area. Amazon has already taken home some Emmy’s for their children’s programming and HBO hit gold with the “Sesame Street” deal. HBO obtained a 5 year contract with the long-running educational show. This deal not only included the ability to make new episodes but also gave HBO the clearance to release 150 archived episodes.

We expect to hear a lot more about the upcoming Apple steaming service in 2019.
