St. Clair County’s Medical Health Officer says there will be no local mask mandate from the county health department. Dr. Annette Mercatante says she doesn’t believe she has the political support to do her own mask mandate, as some other counties have issued, and instead is encouraging everyone to continue social distancing and mask wearing. “St. Clair County is doing well, relatively speaking,” said Mercatante. “Why would we want to change that dynamic now?”

Mercatante says she will watch the data and numbers, and if they increase, the St. Clair County Health Department will revisit the idea of issuing public health orders. In the meantime, she says residents should continue to wear a face covering when in a public place. Mercatante says she recommends everyone to continue to follow the practices and procedures put into place by Governor Whitmer.
