Sarnia Police have charged a 31-year-old man in connection with a suspected arson last month on Echo Road.
Firefighters were called to the eleven-hundred block of Echo Road around 7 a.m. on August 20th, after an off-duty officer reported suspicious activity in the area followed by flames coming from the home’s garage. The officer followed a suspect, who fled in a vehicle, until it became unsafe to pursue.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire and discovered a large buildup of natural gas inside the residence. Investigators later determined a gas line connected to a fireplace had been tampered with, and candles had been placed throughout the home in an apparent attempt to ignite the fumes.
Investigators say they reviewed ownership, mortgage, and insurance details and as a result arrested the homeowner, Caleb Moore. Moore was charged with arson, mischief endangering life, common nuisance endangering life, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He was remanded into custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court again later this week.
