Residents of a California neighborhood are stumped as to the origins of a giant piece of ice that fell from the sky and crashed through the roof of a garage. Lisa Lawrence said she was sitting outside her home when she spotted an object falling through the sky. She said, “It looked like a garbage bag flying in the air. I looked up at it, and it was a big old ball of ice, bigger than a basketball and I watched it go down and it went off like a bomb.” Lawrence went down the street to the home of her friend, Amnuay Savath, who was outside with her family surveying the damage to their garage. The ice punched a hole in the roof of the garage and damaged the rear bumper of the family’s Honda Accord. Meteorologist Mark Finan said the ice ball was unlikely to be the result of hail or other weather phenomenon.

A Michigan woman who bought grapes from a Walmart store said she discovered a venomous black widow spider in the package. Ariel Jackson said she bought the perforated package of grapes from a Walmart Supercenter in Troy and she discovered the spider when she started washing the fruit. Calling 911, she said,  “I told them that ‘this isn’t really an emergency, but I have a Black Widow spider in my grapes and I don’t really know what to do. He kind of just paused and was like, ‘kill it’ and I was like ‘you want me to kill it? You’re not going to send anyone over?’ This is a poisonous spider and he’s like, ‘yeah, just kill it and throw it away.'” Jackson said it took “quite a few sprays” of insect killer to fell the spider. A Walmart employee told her to bring the package back with the spider for a refund, but they decided to just throw it away. Jackson says she would “still really appreciate an apology from Walmart.”
