Yevette Vasquez has been raising her son, Elijah, 12, since the divorce that left her with full custody. Her biggest concern with single parenting was that Elijah would miss out on fatherly opportunities. She never wanted her son to feel left out during things at school.

One day when she pulled up to school with Elijah, Vasquez noticed the parking lot was unusually packed with cars. She asked Elijah, “What’s going on? Is there an event I’m supposed to be here for?” Vasquez told ABC News.

Elijah hesitantly told Vasquez about the school’s “Donut with Dads” event. It was exactly what Yevette Vasquez had always hoped wouldn’t happen.14192134_1233150623402766_2652651844477649836_n

She asked Elijah why he hadn’t told her and said she could pull off being a dad for a day. Elijah was all for this idea and said, “We got 10 minutes until the bell rings!”

The duo hurried back home and Vasquez returned to school sporting a mustache, plaid shirt and a hat. She told CNN most of the fellow fathers that day were supportive of her idea. Elijah couldn’t have been happier that his mom would go this far to ensure he was never counted out. “At least I can do whatever it takes to put a smile on that face, so here it goes.”

She shared her day as a “dad” to her Facebook page and it exploded on the internet received thousands of shares. She wrote in her post, “I know seeing other dads with their kids isn’t easy for mine, but it’s life.” Vasquez has even been receiving messages of encouragement from other single moms who were inspired by her performance as a “dad.”

Vasquez doesn’t think her days with a mustache are over, “My three boys are my loves, and I hope I can raise them to be amazing men, fathers and husbands even without a father figure example for them.”

Editors Note: Recently another mom did this from Utah. Good hearts inspire good people!
