The Detroit Red Wings beat the Ottawa Senators 5-4 on Monday night in a shootout at Joe Louis Arena. In his first NHL game the Wings Evgeny Svechnikov scored the only goal of a seven round shootout to give the Wings the victory. Gus Nyquist scored twice in regulation, while Dylan Larkin and Frans Nielsen each added a goal as well. The teams rematch on Tuesday night in Ottawa.
