Hurricane Harvey made landfall last Friday and it set to do so again today. While a good story like this can come from it, there are still many people who need help. Text HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation to the American Red Cross or go to redcross.org to donate more.

Imagine what you would do if you were minding your own business in your previously empty vehicle, and then looked to find a wild animal staring at you! I mean, I know what I would do:
And I’m not even ashamed of that. But William Bruso, a taxi driver in Houston, is made of braver stuff. He was stocking up on supplies before the really bad stuff from Hurricane Harvey hit landfall on Friday when he turned to suddenly find a hawk in his passenger seat! It’s almost too much to believe, but lucky for us the cabbie had his wits about him and remembered to upload a video to YouTube.

Yo, I need to go to 5th and Blinker.
It’s not uncommon for animals to seek shelter in or around cars during heinous weather. I, myself, rescued my cat Seren after she fell out of the bottom of a car on the highway the morning after a big storm. But a 5-week-old kitten and a bird are prey are two way different scenarios!
That didn’t deter William though, who just saw another Houston resident in need. He tried to do the obviously thing first and get the bird to fly away, but it either couldn’t or wouldn’t leave. After initial attempts to shoo the hawk off fail, the taxi driver reckoned he would just have to ride out the hurricane with his new passenger, who he began calling Harvey the Hurricane Hawk. Adding chicken hearts to his list of supplies (a delicious predator snack, to be sure), William went back to his apparent with the bird using work gloves to let Harvey perch on his hand.

Harvey, chillin’ like a boss with his new bud William.
There are more videos of Harvey just hanging out in the apartment, too. One shows William feeding the hawk some chicken hearts with a kabob skewer. It’s no surprise that the taxi driver’s videos went viral on social media. Unfortunately this didn’t become the new Netflix sitcom of the fall; the next morning William posted a video of a worker with the Texas Wildlife Rehab Coalition coming to collect the bird of prey. She said that the he has an injury that prevented him from flying, so he would not have survived the storm had William not intervened. And while flooding conditions are still making it difficult for rescue workers to get to the shelter to perform an x-ray on the hawk, he is still resting comfortably and getting the care he needs. It’s a Hurricane Harvey happy ending all thanks to Willaim Bruso!
