Changes coming in the new year to how the McMorran Civic Center Authority operates. Currently, the independent board oversees the operations of the arena and theater in Downtown Port Huron. The authority was set to expire at the end of the year, with the city choosing to buy themselves more time while they consider their options. Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp says she believes there’s no advantage to having the authority operate in its current fashion, and says the council will be taking action in the first quarter of the new year. Repp says it can be difficult at times to fund McMorran in it’s current organization, and would like to set up a similar structure to how St. Clair County Parks and Recreation operates, with the authority being an advisory board to the city.
